A few years ago there was a big fuss about the effect Christmas was having on non-christians and so an attempt was made to rename it Winterval. Of course it never caught on because the non-christians in our diverse country just laughed and said of course they weren't offended.
In the same way Muslims decorate their shops and homes for Eid and Hindus houses are beautifully lit up for the festival of Diwali and there is no complaint from anyone. This tolerance for other faiths and cutlures is one of the things that distinguishes the UK from a lot of other countries in the world.
So what is happening in the USA, the Land of the Free?
Non-christians and Atheists are rioting abut the use of Christmas lights and Nativity Scenes on public buildings!
America has a very strong Christian ethos and it underpins a lot of their political rhetoric and the christians have lived side by side with other cultures for 200 years yet there is still no real toerance or understanding between the different groups who still all cling to their ethnic communities.
I am sorry you can keep your "Land of Opportunity" and give me the Good Old Blighty anyday.
